Kal and Yulia have been residents of Los Altos since the mid-90s. Kal, originally from Egypt, is an economist by trade and has been working with international commodities his whole life. Yulia, who is from Russia, worked as a psychologist prior to coming to America. When Kal got the sweet and savory milk while on a business trip to Pakistan, he knew what he had to do. In 2013, the two of them bought their first 6 water buffalo from a breeder in Texas and started to perfect the production of dairy products from water buffalo milk.
“Buffalo milk ice cream? Count me in! The creaminess and the velvety texture of Morsey’s are unlike any other hard ice cream I’ve had. There were far too many flavors to sample from this little store, but I eventually settled on the milk cream and the pistachio. The milk cream is the one to get if you want to appreciate what buffalo milk has to offer, as this flavor is made from nothing more than buffalo milk and sugar! The pistachio flavor was thicker in texture and had a great nutty flavor (along with whole pistachio kernels). I’d definitely recommend this place for some unique gelato, though the prices aren’t cheap, starting at $5.50 for a single scoop, with extra charges for a cone or splitting flavors–however, buffalo milk definitely doesn’t come cheap, and it’s really worth it to try out this unique treat!”

“There are a lot of people extolling the miraculous benefits of buffalo milk here but guys…the gelato here didn’t taste that remarkably different from any other gelato I’ve had before.
Gelato quality was good, not outstanding. The caramel flavor I got had a bit of a cloying sweetness to it as opposed to the deeper, bitter notes that I tend to prefer in other takes on this flavor. No complaints about the chocolate hazelnut flavor they had though, which was like eating nutella in ice cream form.
Will say that service was very nice, which I appreciated.”
“Downtown has plenty of good ice cream places but Morsey’s is a truly unique new addition. They use buffalo milk in their gelatos and it gives a really creamy, special taste. I loved the chocolate one I got, and my friend really enjoyed the sour cherry. You can also taste the plain buffalo milk to understand the base flavor.
They have a great range of flavors and were super friendly preparing samples. Plus, it’s a local business and they get the milk from their own buffaloes. Prices are reasonable for the area. I highly recommend!”
“Best gelato IN THE WORLD. Who knew that gelato could taste so flavorful and be so creamy, all while having a perfectly sticky texture?!
Personally, I have a new favorite flavor every time, in a good way. Most recently, my favorites have been gianduia, pistachio, lemon cookie, white chocolate, and hazelnut. The list could go on and on with flavors I drool over. Visiting Morseys has truly become a special occasion. The workers are very generous and kind as well, and eager to offer samples. I used to crave Salt and Straw and Gelataio around the corner, but that craving has now been entirely supplanted by Morseys.
Purportedly Mark Zuckerberg frequents this quaint lil ice cream establishment on the regular, and orange ricotta is his favorite flavor.”
“Love the chocolate hazelnut flavor ice cream I had.
It is like a Nutella flavored ice cream my dream.
The texture is smooth and soft. It has just right sweetness. I am definitely coming back.”
“I tried multiple gelatos and the burrata cheese. The burrata was $12 and was very creamy and wonderful. The gelato was also very fresh and creamy. The hazelnut and milk cream flavors were my favorite. I took off one star for the price. I bought a pint of ice cream to go and it was $18! They said the price is due to the high cost of buffalo milk.
The location is at the top of University Ave and you wouldn’t even notice that it was there if you weren’t looking for it. I hope the store adds something to their storefront to make it more visible and inviting…otherwise I’m worried it won’t survive.
I really do hope this place stays open as their cheese and gelato are very tasty.”
“As anybody who has been to Palo Alto knows, it’s an ice cream town. As of today, that has all changed. Here’s the scoop, there’s a new frozen treat in town. Welcome to the world of buffalo gelato. It’s rich, it’s creamy and the flavors are really intense. The Dark chocolate is incredibly chocolatey without being bitter and it’s gooey like taffy. The dark sour cherry was sweet and tart at the same time. Finally, the honey lavender was most intensely lemony with hints of lavender and honey and crunchy bits. This is some serious stuff and the proprietors are super friendly and welcoming, handing you one tasting spoon after another. Run, don’t walk, to Morsey’s before it gets discovered and you have to wait half an hour for a scoop!”
“Delicious water buffalo gelato. The flavor is clean and not too sweet. Very friendly and nice owner. Will definitely visit again.”
Tip: they also sell burrata and fresh water buffalo milk here!
“I really enjoy that place the ice cream is one of the best ice cream that I have ever tried in Palo Alto. Famous and unique Buffalo ice creams in Palo Alto.”
“What a treat to try buffalo milk at Morsey’s Creamery (bought some to take home) — as well as gelato di bufala that was smooth, creamy, satisfying and not overly sweet.
Staff was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. We talked about the herd of 400 buffalo cows (all have been given their own names) in the Sacramento area, that are providing the milk for the gelato, and how trips are being made back and forth to bring the milk down to make the gelato for Morsey’s Creamery and Farmhouse Kitchen (restaurant in Los Altos).
The benefits of water buffalo milk vs. traditional dairy cow milk are compelling (more calcium, protein, vitamins, etc.), and have already been mentioned in other yelp reviews. The Morsey buffalo cows sound like they are grass fed as well.
Note: Morsey’s Creamery is selling out of many flavors quickly, so if you have your heart set on a particular flavor, you might want to check in with them first. We’ll definitely be back to try the chocolate, gianduia, and other fruit and nut flavors that we missed this week.”
